Ok.. Im working very hard to make the Editor conviniet.. a lot of sophisticated Editing Decisions..
Its not easy to that what I do.. Compared even to the professional Editors..

In the picture you can see on the right side the Game Canvas and when you pick an Element on the Class Function it will blink on the right side..
Making it more Coherent.
I still have more work to do about it..
This is rather boring to me and not easy..
I never see the end of it.

I did more Map Editing improvement. Lets hope something will come out of it..

Ill Add download link so you can try the Latest Version.

There is so much boring work.. whenever you think youre their you realize youre still not their

looks great! I like the sprite graphics, did you made them? will test them later.

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

I dont have time for graphics so no i didnt..

You better wait until i fix more bugs before checking this version.
Ill let you know when its worth checking. ;)

btw if you can somehow make auto scroll down to last post it will be awesome to your forum..
or at least a button that takes you to last post :)
Or pages.. :p

And I like button :D

Cool beans. I don't see the download link or files to drive for the editor. Is this already compacted? or still a ~200MB download?

The last post link in the index page should do fine, if you mean inside this topic then I will think about it.

And I like button :D

Soon!

I will put a new link soon.. for now its better to wait.. Thanks

agreed, small things do matter. I will retweet it with the link to your download when it's ready.

New Image!

Just added some more things.

Im slowing down lately from various reasons

(Posted 5 months ago) RonTek commented:

Nice one HC, some progress is always a good thing.

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

in the last few days i took a rest and also im a bit stuck..
I want to make an explorer inside my editor for assets.
I cant find a simple way to do it..
because i was with Xors and Albalynx i dont have many people to ask..

anyway thats all

(Posted 5 months ago) RonTek commented:

It seems that an explorer or assets widget is just a representation of a path and directory with icons and file name. perhaps just use a grid layout with a parent icon/link and move away from using a tree structure or format for simplicity.

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

I started making a file explorer

there is a chance my explorer will show stuff that a normal explorer cant.
ill modify it to replay my stuff so its much better

Looks perfect! curious though, what would that be?

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

It will show file types that arent recognized by windows.. like prf=prefab.. and maybe play animations like Gif..
its not hard to do.. i did it already.. only matter of tasks priorities

(Posted 5 months ago) RonTek commented:

I see, well that's normal and perhaps you can just use regedit to add the file types that you need to associate with your editor.

Here's some links to get you started:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/desktop/legacy/ff521657(v%3Dvs.85)

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/shell/how-to-register-a-file-type-for-a-new-application

I also know some tool(s) to make that process much easier, will post it under toolbox as soon as I find it.

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

Interesting thanks. I was about to ask if its possible.
than I deleted my post because I thought it was a stupid question.
it appear it wasnt.

BTW: Im not trying that windows will recognize this file atm.. only that my editor will

(Posted 5 months ago) RonTek commented:

Ok I see. Anyway, it's FileTypesMan by NirSoft and here it is: https://www.blitzcoder.org/forum/topic.php?id=527

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

I have succsefully made a preview image to my Zipped File Type Called Element.
This was pretty complex.. not as simple as it may sound. but I made it work.
Its more important than it Sound. It really makes things far more clear

(Posted 5 months ago) RonTek commented:

That's great HC! btw, did you manage to make use of the file type tool?

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

I didnt use it yet.. but its a great effort of you that will be used in the future :)

(Posted 5 months ago) RonTek commented:

Nice. there's always ol' windows regedit if you want to get down and dirty, but that nirsoft tool is much safer to use.

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

Question. Can you keep an Image inside a File Regedit.. I mean if i want a preview of it in windows?

(Posted 5 months ago) RonTek commented:

hmm.. not sure what you meant by that. Are you talking about a thumbnail preview of a certain file type?

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

Yea thumbnail...
I mean is there a way to add certain files a snapshot image as preview?

Also lately i slowed down in programming..
I lose interest sometimes you know..
Its ups and downs, that's life

(Posted 5 months ago) RonTek commented:

I see. On Windows 7 and older there's also this tool called PreviewConfig.

Here are more videos for Win 7 and 10

(Posted 5 months ago) hardcoal commented:

thanks :)

(Posted 4 months ago) hardcoal commented:

From time to time it happen that you ruine part of your code..
It happen to me this week..
this is ultra annoying.. because instead of continue your programing you are busy fixing stuff that used to work..
but on the other side.. eventually you might end improving your code for the long term..
but thats not always the case..
Hope in this case it will..

I havnt still fully recovred from the damage but i keep going..

its really that complex..

especially when im not certain about many things, how they should be
and i never had a complete plan for how an editor should be.

its all lots of trail and errors

(Posted 4 months ago) RonTek commented:

Yep, that happens to me as well so again you are not alone. Do you backup or save your previous changes or work history so you can rollback? one way or the best way is to use Git.

(Posted 4 months ago) hardcoal commented:

I do have backups sure
But i can't roll back because of many other changes
But i do copy or look on the older code to see the difference..

Rarely i roll back though..

Anyway im slowly coming out of it
Ill inform when Im safe again.

This is frustrating as it is as you know well 😉

(Posted 4 months ago) hardcoal commented:

Ok, After a week I think Ive solved the problem.
It was just a few variables i deleted..
in a huge code.. any tiny mistake can cost alot

(Posted 4 months ago) RonTek commented:

that's good to hear HC and couldn't agree more.

(Posted 3 months ago) hardcoal commented:

I spent so much time on an editor because i was certain its the right thing to do.
now i realize what a big mistake i made..
i cant blame myself too much because i was a begginer. I knew nothing.
so this editor at least gave me the power to know that now, everything is piece of cake for me.
now going directly to what i want.
so i release things very fast..
Now im trying to make an FPS player movement..

I dont throw my editor, i just give it a rest.
this is good for summing new conclusions about it by doing side things and reflecting.

Its so easy to do things directly, i cant believe ive missed it.
and the satisfaction is quick..
i can in a day do something.. and display it.. i could have done like 100 things by now..

Anyway.. what was was, i cant bring back time..

all we can do is look ahead

(Posted 3 months ago) RonTek commented:

Live and learn as they always say and I'm sure you have gained more experience in doing this.

So you are saying you are now starting to make games instead?

(Posted 3 months ago) hardcoal commented:

Im saying.. im concentrating on doing little stuff... that might turn to grow bigger.
And feeling much less stress from trying to live up to such high expectations of myself..

I Currently experiment with trying to make an FPS player movement..

also Ive published my PNG Tileset splitter on itch.io
if ill see demand for adding more features i will

Dont get me wrong.. My editor wasnt in vain..
I will certainly use it.. for example as a Map Editor.
lots of good things are coming out of it.
also its like a bank Code for me..
Plus.. Im gonna continue it.. after a big rest.
things are just getting more interesting to me.

I only feel sorry that i had so much time. and i spent it on big project that didnt give me lots of satisfaction because i had nothing to show to people for years.
now that im making small stuff. i get the feeling that i want, and the desired feedback, which is so essential for keep going

(Posted 3 months ago) RonTek commented:

that's good to know.

btw, you did get some likes and retweet on your last screenshot updates that I posted.. at least that counts as feedback outside this community.

check it out.

You should add last post button to topics

(Posted 3 months ago) RonTek commented:

you can just click the last post author link in the Active Topics list and it takes you straight down to the last post.

(Posted 2 months ago) hardcoal commented:

After Ive learnt GNet.. and took a long rest I came back to my Main GameEditor and made some Coding..
Its not the im fully back but its something :)

Gnet made me realize that its the best way to make Simple Games that people will like and play

(Posted 2 months ago) hardcoal commented:

Ok im back.. Doing more stuff.. hoping to release something soon.

Some people are actually waiting for me to release it.. I dont like dissapointing people ;)

(Posted 2 months ago) RonTek commented:

That's great to hear and a good sign. So are you switching from Xors to OpenB3DMax now?

anyways keep it up

(Posted 2 months ago) hardcoal commented:

Im not switching from xors, not at this point..
I cant because all the gui is based on Xors too.

only if the editor will work, than it might be worth it.

(Posted 1 month ago) hardcoal commented:

ok last update..
I dont do much but i do..

so...

i finally did a Gadget that streches your entity to any side you like..
instead of scale that increases an entity from both sides..
with this Gadget you can pull any side you like and it will stretch only to the specific side.
I think all editors should have it. but thats me :)

I marked with an Arrow the new Gadget

Its the green square around the brown mesh

(Posted 1 month ago) RonTek commented:

Great update and feature. I think at this point you almost covered every aspect on making a game editor.

btw, are you also experiencing some unusual site activity lately like what Blitzman has just reported?

(Posted 1 month ago) hardcoal commented:

I dont experience anything wrong atm with your site :)

About the Editor.. Ye its progressing..
but its still not something people will want to use..

When Ill release a Version on a dedicated website with an example Game.. than we can start talking about its future..
Than i will be able to release the code, and maybe others will join and improve it.

But its fun seeing it prograssing..

I work very slow now, but its fun seeing progress.

(Posted 1 month ago) RonTek commented:

Good to know. thanks for confirming that.

Awesome plan with the editor. I would recommend git code versioning tool and GitHub for that and perhaps start getting used to it and know how it works, at least the basics or common stuff.

ok.. we keep going.. here is last pic..

the jugged purple line represent physical collision surface which can easily be manipulated and make changes..
Ive made a seperate physical for ease of work

Hi.. RonTek.. Can you help me make a module out of my engine..?
I dont recall how to do so?
or at least direct me to the link..

anyway I keep progressing.. slowly ..

I would also like to suggest that you will add the spelling option to your forum.. because i make lots of spelling mistakes.. :p

There is already a spell checker in the editor and it highlights words in red for errors.
