how to make a muzzle flash?

So i added a gun into my game, but i don't know how to make a muzzle flash, how can i do this?
also, particles imo are complicated so I'm gonna need one that is an image, like how scp containment breach did it.

I'd parent a graphic to the gun's nozzle then hide it via EntityAlpha=0. A sprite, mesh or whatever. When the gun fires, display the graphic for say, 3 frames then hide it again.
You can have a custom variable that controls how long the graphic is displayed.
