Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. It's time to place your votes for the games submitted to the BlitzCoder Indie Game Jam 2023.
I think there is one more entry to be submitted (by RemiD) so you may want to wait for that before you vote. Voting will last 4 weeks until 30 November, after that I will post the total votes and decide the winners. Voting is easy, votes should just be ordered 1st, 2nd, 3rd and if you like a game then please add some helpful comments for the developer. Votes will be weighted by points so 1st = 9, 2nd = 5 and 3rd = 3 (so two 2nds will beat a first). Thanks.

yes i am working on a simple 3d shooter game with an halloween (pumpkins!) theme.
what is the exact end date / time for submiting a game for this comp ?
31 october 2023 at 23h59m ?
UTC+0 ? UTC-5 ? other ?
thanks
RemiD, you can keep working on it as long as you like, it just may not get as many votes then. I've set a month for voting so two more weeks would be acceptable.
i started 2 projects at the same time. not the best idea.
i will post my game (work in progress) before 31 october 2023 23h59m UTC+0, better than nothing i suppose.
i don't care to win anyway, it is just to improve my coding / graphism skills, and for fun.
OK, here are my votes.
1st - A Little Thing Made Out Of Clay by ilias
2nd - Halloween Shooter 3D by RemiD
3rd - Punk Porker by MrmediamanX
ilias - very enjoyable and playable game with great graphics. Well done!
RemiD - although it wasn't actually finished, your game was still very nice, although it would have been great if the pumpkins could move towards the player.
MrmediamanX - a nice looking game but it was way too hard for me.
@markcwm>> thanks for the feedback.
my plan was to have the pumpkins attack the player when they see him. one far range attack by throwing a magickal projectile, one near range attack by biting.
and have the player attacks in 2 ways : one far range attack by throwing a pebble (which would cause holes in the pumpkin (already done)), and one near range attack by slashing a stick or a machete (which would causes cuts on the pumpkin).
i will improve it for next halloween !
(i need to retest the games before voting)
Thank you mark , much appreciated , it's cool that you enjoyed it , it means a great deal to me if my game is enjoyed ,
Thank you again .
When is the next game jam btw ?
@RemiD, that sounds like fun, I liked the pumpkins and the little quaking mushroom thing, just disappointed there was no collisions with the player.
@ilias, yes the teapot was a great character choice and I loved the clocks and messages. We just have this jam once a year, so it'll be October 31 2024.
here are my votes, better late then never.
1st - Halloween Shooter 3D by RemiD
2nd - A Little Thing Made Out Of Clay by ilias
3rd - Roller Toaster cytoon 2.0 by tmc
1st Punk Porker by MrmediamanX
2nd Slender Forest by Loud64
no other blitzbasic / blitzmax game, unfortunately.
RemiD - thanks, you can vote for non-Blitz games if you like, the competition allows it.
@MrmediamanX - thanks for the votes. In Punk Porker, the bullets would just stop firing after about 20, how do you get more?
@markcwm Thats odd the ammo should be unlimited, must be a mouse input anomaly,it should be a mouse hit for each shot unless in auto mode then it becomes a mouse down input.
I need to make the dollar pickups a +5 to health anyway to make it, easier the patch will be V0.2 despite the title saying V0.1.
if I find more bugs or add anything extra I'll update it further, All updated new version should be up now, not to sure if that fixes it but lets hope so. Cool.
thanks, you can vote for non-Blitz games if you like, the competition allows it.
i know, but i don't allow it, i am a blitzbasic / blitzmax communautarian, it is similar to religious fanatism, but related to programming.
@MrmediamanX>>
one weird thing that i have noticed in your game, is that the shaking of the screen happens when a bullet hits an enemy, but not when it hits a wall.
imo it would be more coherent if the shaking of the screen would happen when shooting. or when an explosive explodes (grenade, rocket).
other than that, original graphics and fun gameplay.
Thank you Marc , yes the teapot is also one of my favorite ideas , i am also using it in a full playable game that i am still working on , with hope that one day i'll be able to release it to players
Thank you for you comments , i intended to have the clocks animated at first but i wasent able to do it on time , in my next edit i'll add that .
Thats odd the ammo should be unlimited, must be a mouse input anomaly,it should be a mouse hit for each shot unless in auto mode then it becomes a mouse down input.
Hmm, well the shots just stopped pretty soon for me and as far as I know there's nothing wrong with my trackpad button. It happened every time I played the game, which was about 3 times.
@Loud64, yes of course please do, anyone can post votes. (You can even vote for yourself if you like!)
@Loud64 , But be carefull from one blitzbasic / blitzmax communautarian, he proclaim himself to be a fanatic programmer
hey Mark , how many times can someone vote , i suppose just once ?
from one blitzbasic / blitzmax communautarian, he proclaim himself to be a fanatic programmer
it was humor
but indeed i like blitzbasic very much.
Hey Mark ,
hello
the voting ends thursday at midnight i guess , like on 11:59 PM ??
Hey , greetings and salutations
here are my votes and my feedbacks :
The Votes
1st - A Little Thing Made Out Of Clay by ilias
2nd - Slender Forest by Loud64
3rd - Roller Toaster cytoon 2.0 by tmc
The Feedbacks for the games :
For Loud64 / Slender Forest
I like the 3D scenery fading into the black; it makes it intriguing not knowing what is about to be settled.
However, the movement is too slow at the start, and the sound could be improved as it's too repetitive and not a pleasant choice
For tmc / Roller Toaster cytoon 2.0
the loading takes too long at the beginning. Why is that?
I didn't understand what the gameplay was about—was it a game, or was it a joke? It feels like a poorly executed joke.
Additionally, the audio song/music is not very appealing. You should have included some interesting gameplay mechanics.
Thank you Mark for this Jam opportunity .

the voting ends thursday at midnight i guess , like on 11:59 PM ??
No, it will be closer to December 1 9pm GMT.
Thanks for your votes ilias and thanks to RemiD and MrMediaManX as well. RemiD, I will assume your 3rd vote goes to yourself.
As always any winning from the comp I won can either go back into the prize pot or split between the other competition placers.
I'm cool with it, Congratulations to the other participants, well done everyone, Merry Christmas and have a good one.
@MrMediaManX, OK I will send your cash prize to support Blitzcoder. Thanks for that and for taking part!
@Grindalf, yes I probably shouldn't have said that.
Nevermind, happy Christmas to all!
Hey,
I propose that for the next game jam, we have a jury instead of votes. I believe it's better to have judges to determine winners and provide detailed feedback for the entries.
Voting can sometimes be or seem unfair, and sometimes it just is.
Also, I was wondering for those who are proficient with Blitz, does it have a visual scripting system to program events and gameplay for those who don't have extensive knowledge/experience in classical coding?
Thank you in advance.
Ilias / Ilias's Crafts And Toys.
too late to vote..hurraah to the winners anyway
@ilias blitz is pretty much old schooling coding
@ilias, yes but we're such a small group here that we can't even make a jury up, also the jury would be biased in favour of Blitz. I'm pretty sure that if we got more voters then any bias would eventually be eliminated, 10 voters would probably even things up.
@ceeminus, feel free to add your votes. Late voters are welcome but will not affect the final results.
