Upcoming Subforum Changes

This is to make way for new sub-forums for Blast3D (dry run, for the meantime) and other languages and perhaps bringing in other Basic variations.

Monkey-X subforums will still be available, but will be hidden in the home page. I am thinking of placing one at the top menu instead.

Just out of curiosity, why hide the monkey-x subforum ? I think you can place it at the end of the subforums, without having to hide it..
Anyway. Can't wait for the new Blast3D. How are things progressing ? Could you share a vague release date ?

Inactivity. Do you use MX? It's been on the bottom part for years and as you may have noticed the latest replies are all by me

No worries, it will never go away here on site.. just making a temporary restructuring of the homepage for now and let see how it goes.

cheers. still juggling with other important stuff, but I will try to have the latest news and some changes by this month or the next.

Hmm...

Monkey-X closed in mid-2017 http://web.archive.org/web/20170614113027/http://www.monkey-x.com/Community/_index_.php

Cerberus-X has taken in the Monkey-X users https://www.cerberus-x.com/community/

Syntaxbomb has a small forum for MonkeyX or CerberusX and Monkey2 users https://www.syntaxbomb.com/monkey/

Monkey2 closed in mid-2019 http://web.archive.org/web/20190610083807/http://monkeycoder.co.nz/forums/

There is a Monkey2 forum here but it's not being used https://monkeycoders.boards.net/

Monkey2 had a Discord channel which is where everyone posts https://discordapp.com/invite/ZHpRAFp

Wonkey has a Discord channel https://discord.gg/awfuRtZay7

But there's not really a proper, so to speak, forum for Monkey2 on the web. What do you think about adding some Monkey2 forums Ron?

It would be good to have an archive of Monkey2 forums as well, if I could manage it.

I've been working on the blitzbasic archive, I've fixed broken blitzbasic links, broken forum navigation links and added bb/bmx links to the code archives. I'm not finished yet though, it should take another few weeks.

Monkey-X is still included here because some members here I know (including me) can still support it in someway if someone ask for help. If there is already support for Monkey2 or variants somewhere else then there's no need to setup shop here unless the maintainers or owners would be eager to join and be active here.

I never have gone that deep on Monkey2 that's why I have not put it out here. We can try and test out a single and unified Monkey subforum though.

This is great btw, any updates on the BlitzCoder Challenge mechanics? perhaps make a bump on the post so the new mechanics and changes are known.

Hi Ron,

OK thanks, well to be honest I'm not that keen on unified or multi-lingual forums, I think it gets messy and confusing. Monkey and Cerberus yes, same language but Monkey 2 and Wonkey should have their own forums, they're not quite the same language.

I would like to act as moderator for Monkey 2 / Wonkey if you will add a few forums for it. I know I'm not the best choice being a beginner but I can learn as I go and add essential threads. So ideally a set of 3 forums titled "Monkey 2 / Wonkey" with "Monkey 2 Help" and "Monkey 2 Programming" and then "Monkey 2 Code Library".

Also, would you reconsider hiding the Monkey-X forums as I'm only getting around to looking at Monkey/Cerberus now and I may start using those forums soon.

PS: yes I'm still thinking about the Blitz Challenge.

Hey Mark, as you already have added the link there, Cerberus-X already has its own community and forum. I don't see any point creating one unless there are CX devs that will join here and be active on a regular basis.

Yes, might give this another 6mos. or perhaps less but will eventually stick to single subforum if there's no activity.

Monkey 2 / Wonkey if you will add a few forums for it.

could be added on 'other Basic' or languages subforums and still Monkey when unified and then it can be considered as separate if it takes off.

The basic rule or procedure is if there are other members that are creating or replying topics to a subforum other than myself, then it justifies a need of or keeping a subforum.

Obviously, it's kinda lame and awkward seeing my name on the homepage straight flush on particular subforums as it hints inactivity.

Hi Ron,

well no, I meant that the existing Monkey forums here are also valid for Cerberus users. So there's nothing I am suggesting to create there except maybe titling the forums as "Monkey-X / Cerberus-X".

OK well I guess if you're not interested then I'll just let it go...

Yes, it's surprising that no-one has taken advantage of the Monkey forums.

Well, if the authors will provide a cross / exchange link then I might consider it.. but that is very unlikely to happen so let's stick with just Monkey-X to distinguish the original MX and they also have their own forum to provide support.

Yes, let's leave it at that.

That is true, but still MX will not go away since it is part of original BRL Blitz and it still works. Very handy on HTML5/Web games as well.

Actually and if you noticed before, I was really leaning heavily towards MX, but the 3D features killed it with MX Minib3D and Vortex2 discontinued.
